I have not had much opportunity to add anything much to this blog in a long while. Pressure of work has left me with little spare capacity for creative work, and coming home tired every night has not helped.
And then, as if by magic, the answer appears. My work, it seems, has no merit in the eyes of the new management. All that I’ve done is meaningless. Creative thought means little. I’m employed, but no-one needs me.
For a while, I was hurt and grievously offended. It took me a week or two to unfocus my thoughts from work. I eventually managed that. And now I’ve returned to that which I really want to do. The rust took a while to scrub off, but I worked at it, and now we have the first fruit of a new age.
‘Bathsheba and the Grapes’. Part of the ‘Lower Methil Annexe’ series.
Stories write themselves, and this one took longer than I ever expected. There are 4 more stories to go, to finish the series. I hope that they will be shorter (and quicker!), but you never can tell. If you think it’s easy, try reading a story when you know how it is going to end. Keeping focussed, and writing when you already know the answer, is hard! Try it.
I hope that you enjoy the story. If you do, read the rest. They’re all in there.
Do I feel guilty about writing when I should be doing work? Seeing as I write only in my own time, not in the slightest. It is like retiring early. And my gain is their loss. They have had more, far more than they ever paid for. And their credit has expired.
