I’m rapidly coming to the end of ‘The Game of Snooker’, the latest addition to my ‘Annexe’ series. What started off as 3 chapters, rapidly grew to 6. The characters developed a life of their own, and virtually wrote the story. I felt more like their biographer!
The twists and turns came as a natural consequence of the story. I try, really hard, to make a story consistent, and while I enjoy surprises, I do not wish to inflict inexplicable surprises on the reader, just to move the story along. I’m sure that the reader will tell me if I get it wrong.
I have become inordinately fond of the fearsome ‘Penelope Pillan’, and I just know that she will return in a later story. Her doing – not mine! Are all authors just a little bit crazy? Or a lot?
The title comes from one of the Odd Poems – ‘Life Sentences’
Life’s an education, so it is!
And a teacher on the subject
would be great.
I’ve watched the highest, and the low,
the smartest and the slow,
and sat beside the madmen
as they drove.
No matter how we strive,
No one gets out whilst alive.
So enjoy it till you feel the hand of fate.
Back to the salt mines.
