This isn’t one of the Great USA Song Contest blogs. Just a little write up on Little Rock. To be precise – both of them. There is the city of Little Rock and the city of North Little Rock, where our motel was situated. Motel was ok, despite the belief that blankets are unnecessary on beds. With snow on the ground. I tend to differ in my opinion.
On the following day, we crossed the Arkansas River into Little Rock. We parked the car in a downtown car-park, and had a look around. Our previous experience in Asheville made us a bit cynical, but we found that Little Rock was a delightful place. It had its own little trolley-car route ($1 per person), with wonderful little wooden trolley-cars.
The route ran across the river to North Little Rock and back. The guide/driver was informative and chatty. We did the round-trip.
Question. How do you turn a trolley-car around?
Answer. You don’t! You move the backrests on all the seats, so that the seats face the opposite way. Delightfully sensible.
We then wandered around the Riverfront Market. Did the fridge-magnet bit. Bought a cake and a drink. Not every day that someone offers to press some apples so that you can have fresh apple juice!
Little Rock is a good place. Renewal with common sense. Preservation without pretence.
