Thought I might dip a toe in the water and hope that others would join me.
Wrong Time Wrong Place
There are neighbours and neighbours
Ours, hard workers always.
Each morning, a cheery ‘Bonjour’
‘Wrong time, wrong place
Young Moroccan drowns in Seine’
Proud of a son, family business assured
‘Un français’, born here,
A wedding soon
‘Wrong time, wrong place
Young Moroccan drowns in Seine’
The river strolls lazily towards the sea
Under a summer sun. they walk
engrossed, entwined, unaware
‘Wrong time, wrong place
Young Moroccan drowns in Seine’
Banners unfurled, heads shaved
‘They take our jobs and our girls!’
Brains curdled by too much sun
‘Wrong time, wrong place
Young Moroccan drowns in Seine’
Alerted by the smell of hatred,
Too late! Muscles stand out on tattooed arms.
Which grab and throw
‘Wrong time, wrong place
Young Moroccan drowns in Seine’
Catriona

Just a little thank you to Catriona for such a moving poem.
This is the first on this blog – but not the last.
