The Great USA Song Contest

Well, here we are. The Great USA Song Contest.

All you have to do is follow this blog, starting with ‘Sea to Shining Sea’, as the Wife and I rumble our way across the USA, from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Each section of the competition will have its own blog. Each of these blogs will contain clues to 5 songs (or tunes). All you have to do is print out the blank Song Sheet, and fill in your brilliantly deducted answers (or wild guesses!). There will be 12 contest blogs, so that makes 60 tunes to find. And the performers, if you can.

There may well be other blogs in-between, where you can park your brain and just read for the amusement of it all. The contest blogs are clearly indicated on the song sheet.
If you have any queries, drop me a note.

… or click on this picture for a JPG version of the entry sheet.
Print it out, photocopy it, or scribble it on to toilet paper, if you so choose!

Place your answers (or guesses, random or otherwise!) in the spaces for ‘song’ and ‘performer’ in the rows that match the blog entry.

There are 5 songs hidden somewhere in each blog entry on the Contest Sheet.
Most are songs, but some are instrumentals. Some are solo artists, some duos, bands or who knows what?
Some are very easy, some more complicated, some very obscure, and there is the odd sneaky one!
Fair? I am not! But the clues are there. And if you know where, you can listen to them on the internet.

The performers are my choice. Usually (but not always) the person(s) most famous for that song. The writer(s) or the people who brought it to the public’s attention. Some are recent – some are way older than me! Some are my choice because I preferred that version. And some are only performed by the one person( or group). Not everyone makes it big time!

You can send your entry to me, in a number of ways …

You can reply to a blog entry. This method requires registration – necessary to stop spammers.

You can put it all in an email – either in text or with an attached file. Acceptable file types are PDF, GIF, JPG, TXT or Microsoft Word. All emails will be scanned, and any dodgy ones will be deleted without opening. Keep it simple, and there should be no problem.

The winner will be the person with the most, correct songs. In the event of a tie, the person with the most, correct performers will win. My judgement will be final, and any appeals or objections should be sent to BT’s Indian Internet Support Organisation or any seller of Mis-sold PPI Claims. Not to me – see ‘dodgy’ above!

The Prize will be of my choosing. The winner will find out what it is when I return from the USA.
Read the blog for details.

Final important notice!
Entry is FREE. I do NOT charge for anything in this blog. But it would be nice if anyone who enters was to donate something to the charity of their choice. Just give it to them – I trust you – and let me know which charity you are giving to. Say, one GBP (£1), or as much as you like.

If you copy the entry sheets and pass them around, more people will enter (I hope!) and more charities will benefit. If money is tight, well, just enter anyway. I don’t mind (and I write the rules). Your money will go where it is most needed. No shame in that. Been there. Gone hungry.

DO NOT SEND MONEY TO ME. I am not handing out my PayPal Account number, and I only take cash anyway.

This is the email address if you want to send entries direct. It is a graphic, so scans won’t read it. This email address will only be open when the final blog entry is posted. It will stay open till I decide that everyone who wants to enter has had a reasonable chance. After the contest, this address will be junked. Blocked. Unusable. And I bet that I will receive junk mail anyway. Such is life …
