Hierarchy of Medicine

Have spent rather more of my time than I would wish, running to and fro, fulfilling doctor and hospital appointments, with nothing good to show for it all.

It has been educational, so I will now share the good things that come from frequent contact with the medical fraternity (and no! I don’t mean MRSA or Winter Vomiting Virus!)

Though you will not find this on any organisational chart, there is a medical hierarchy in Medicalonia.

At the top, there are the Receptionists (and assorted admin types)
God-like beings who know everything about everything.

Then there are TV Doctors
These marvels of medicine know a lot about a helluva lot of things.

Then there are GPs (or, occasionally General Practitioners)
They know a little about a lot of things.

Next come the consultants
They know a lot about very little indeed!

At the bottom, come the Patients.
Nobody tells them anything.

I’m sure that if we could just get rid of all those Patients, then life would be so much better for all those in the Upper Ranks of the Hierarchy.

We would just keep a few (like Pandas in the Zoo).
After all, those TV Doctors need the occasional patient with a totally-obscure, life-threatening condition that can be brilliantly fixed in under an hour (including adverts).

I’ve outlived better doctors than the ones I see around this part of the world. I intend to outlive a few more.

No wonder people take their dogs to a Vet. People love their pets!
