Crazy Science No1

I know that Genetic Modification is a bit of a swearword in some areas, but just bear with me on this one. This thought might actually work, and the benefits!

Human beings eat food (carbohydrates mainly) and expire Carbon Dioxide (which is a BAD THING!)
Plants absorb Carbon Dioxide and, with the aid of sunlight and chlorophyll, create sugars (carbohydrates) and expire oxygen (which is a GOOD THING!)

If we were to genetically modify human beings (volunteers only, of course) to have chlorophyll in their hair (I have come up with the brilliant idea. I’ll leave it to those University types to sort out the practical details), then, by merely walking around in the sunlight, people could produce their own carbohydrates. The benefits are obvious!

No longer would people go hungry. A little sunlight equals a light lunch! Overweight? No problem! Lie down in a darkened room and watch soap operas. The impoverished people in Third World countries would, due to the tropical sun, become the food-rich rather than the starving. A sunshade or a bush hat would be sufficient to avoid gluttony – never a problem in that part of the world.

No more stuffy rooms! A large crowd would breath out ample quantities of invigorating oxygen! You could burn lots of decorative candles to burn up any excess. New Age Heaven. Eco-friendly types must surely ditch their GM Frankenstein Food Fears, and get on board with this candle-burning delight.

World hunger cured in one fell swoop. We could restrict food growing to more delightful foods like strawberries and kiwi fruit. Or anything you like in the vast expanse of freely available redundant corn fields.

As a bonus, people of Irish extraction could really express themselves on St Patrick’s day, with glorious green locks. (Sorry, Scots! We haven’t quite developed red chlorophyll quite yet. But give us time …)

So there you are. One simple answer to one of the world’s greatest problems!

What more could you say?
